English

National Literacy and Numeracy Week

Students at Corpus Christi participated in a variety of activities during National Literacy Week, which culminated on National Reading Day.

Activities included:

  • Buddy Reading
  • DEAR (Drop Everything and Read)
  • Cartooning session with Cartoonist Tony Murphy
  • Whole school reading time (All students and teachers stopped to read for half an hour)
  • Infants Story Sharing Hour
  • K-6 Book Trivia Competition.

The day was a great success. It was a wonderful opportunity
to develop and foster our love for reading.

Students from K-2 were lucky enough to spend National Reading Day with parents and grandparents. During the morning session students enjoyed listening to a variety of stories. Stories old and new, fiction and non-fiction were enjoyed by all.

Language is central to students’ intellectual, social and emotional development and has an essential role in all key learning areas. Competence in English will enable students to learn about the role of language in their own lives and in their own and other cultures.

At Corpus Christi we encourage positive attitudes towards learning English, using language effectively and critically reflecting on how language works. Students’ literacy skills are developed through the experiences provided in Talking and Listening, Reading and Writing. We provide a varied curriculum which caters for the individual needs of each student.

The students are provided with a variety of experiences using a wide range of literature. We believe that together with the parents, we can foster in children a love for literature and learning.
