Pastoral Care and Discipline
At Corpus Christi we aim to create a happy and effective learning environment through a positive and consistent approach to discipline. Our positive Behaviour Management Programme is based on the beliefs that all behaviour is learned and that almost all behaviour can be changed through appropriate and consistent praise, rewards, reprimands, ignoring and consequences.
Behaviour Management
At Corpus Christi the teachers and staff have agreed to use a Positive Behaviour Management system. This means that the staff always work from a positive frame of reference to discipline a child. Praise, rewards, ignoring, intervention and providing consequences are used consistently across the staff to promote self-discipline in our students. Persistent breaking of class and school rules is brought to the attention of the Principal and parents. Behaviour management records of children’s behaviour are sent weekly to the principal by each class teacher.
Some of the assistance we provide for students are:
Awards
Merit awards are given by the class teacher each week. Students are recognised for efforts in all areas of their education - academic, physical, social, spiritual and emotional.
Buddies
Students entering Kindergarten are allocated a special Year 6 Buddy. The Buddy takes special care of the younger child as they settle into school life. The Buddy can check up on the child during break times and can be a friendly face to go to in times of need. The Year 6 Buddies sometimes come to help their Kindergarten friends in their classrooms. New children in any grade are allocated a buddy.
Bullying
Bullying is unacceptable at our school. Bullying is hurtful and manipulative behaviour which is usually repetitive and may be premeditated. It can be verbal, social, psychological, electronic (SMS, email or MSN), or physical. It creates an imbalance of power and makes someone feel unsafe and unhappy. Steps to be taken in case of bullying are laid down in the school Bullying Policy.
Peer Support Groups
Peer Support Groups are formed each year to help establish friendship networks across all grades. Peer Support Leaders from Year 5 and 6 are trained to lead the mixed year level groups (K-6) in activities designed to assist students in learning appropriate social skills and how to deal with bullying if it occurs. Teachers supervise the groups and assist where necessary.
School Counsellor
There is a School Counsellor provided by the Catholic Schools Office for the North Shore Cluster of Catholic Schools. Families wanting to access this counsellor for their child need to speak to the class teacher or Principal.
Student Leadership
This is addressed in various ways throughout a child’s time at our school.
Buddy System
Children entering Kindergarten are allocated a special Year 6 buddy. The buddy takes special care of the younger child as they settle into school life. The buddy can check up on the child during break times and is a friendly face to go to in times of need. The year 6 buddies sometimes assist their Kindergarten friends in their classrooms.
Student Representative Council
Students are elected from each class and represent their peers in school matters in regular meetings.
School Captains & Sporting Captains
School Captains are elected from students in Year 6 by all students in the Senior School. We encourage the students to choose leaders with qualities such as honesty, appropriate behaviour, encouragement of others etc. All Captains and Councillors may be asked to assist the Principal and teachers in running school events.
All Captains, as leaders within the school, are expected to
 |
Show good example to their peers |
 |

 |
Address the school when requested |
 |

 |
